This month, Graphic Insight has a quick look at the destinations within Australia to which QANTAS flies.
The data is taken from the QANTAS public timetable of 8th July 1996. The graph below shows, by State, the number of Airports served by QANTAS flights. These figures exclude airports served only by QANTAS affiliates such as Sunstate, Eastern Australia, O’Connor airlines etc which use the QF flight indicator and in some cases use a QANTAS derived livery, and indeed have through ticketing, but which are not actually QANTAS.
Queensland dominates the graph with services to Brisbane, Coolangatta, Maroochydore, Townsville and Cairns airports. The Northern Territory has three: Darwin, Alice Springs and Yulara, and Tasmania is the only other State with more than one QANTAS-served airport, those being Hobart and Launceston.
Interestingly, these figures make you wonder whether all that much has actually changed over the past seventy years - after all it appears that QANTAS is still the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service!
